Heaven's Little Half-Acre Discipline Policy
As teachers, our priority is to set an example of Christian living
that will leave a good impression upon the minds and hearts of our
students.
If a child is misbehaving, the teacher is urged to take action
before their anger is aroused and to use appropriate response to
the child's actions.
We encourage teachers, to please, let us know if they are having a
discipline problem with a child!
AND NOT LET THE PROBLEM GROW!
Disciplines we will use:
Redirection of Activities
This will entail trying to get a child interested in a different
activity or toy. We ask the child if they would like to go to
another area or play with another child or toy.
Time-Out
When redirection of activity fails, we must take time-out to think
about our behavior and why it has been inappropriate. the child will
not be sent to time-out without adequate understanding of why. they will
have time to "cool off", then, if still upset or grouchy they may go to
the feel better spot until they feel like returning to play.
Stars and Smiles
When time-out does not help a child to correct his/her behavior we
must resort to STARS and SMILES.
This is a system of discipline I have developed that seems to work
with most children 3 years and older.
On Monday each child begins the day with 10 STARS or SMILES.
The STARS are for those potty trained and older.
The SMILES are for those not potty trained yet.
When a child is very naughty they lose a STAR or SMILE.
On Friday any child having 8 or more STARS or SMILES will get to go
to the treasure box and choose a treasure to take home, plus a treat.
If a child does lose a STAR or SMILE one day all is not lost, for they
may earn it back the next day if tehy do not lose one that day.
If they have less than 8, but more than 5 they may earn a treat.
This teaches that GOOD behavior is rewarded, but BAD behavior is not.
The children do not lose STARS or SMILES for small things, but for BIG
things, like purposeful acts that hurt another, continued misbehavior,
refusing to obey, or refusing time-out when it becomes necessary.
We give every child many chances to keep their STARS or SMILES. I remind
them to keep their STARS or SMILES and not do the naughty thing.
The youngest ones of course need many more reminders, so if they go all
day and keep their SMILES, they will get a sticker or small treat at
the end of the day.
Brought to the Director
If a child is brought to me, I will sit down with the child and we will
discuss their behavior, cause and effect, and will write a note to the
parent/guardian concerning the incident. When the child is ready for
apologies and good behavior, they may return to class.
Termination of Enrollment
If a child refuses to respond to our form of loving discipline, becomes
a danger to themselves or to other children or the teachers, Heaven's
Little Half-Acre will terminate that child's enrollment that day! We
will not put the other children or our teachers in danger of harm!
Signing In
Parents/Guardians are to sign their child/children in with date and
time. this is improtant, please take the time. If we do not know what
time you come we will sign them in at 6 am.
Parent/Guardian, at that time you should tell us if someone else will
be picking up your child/children. Please fill in a Just to let you
know sheet with the name of the person who will be picking them up.
Parent/Guardian please remind the person picking up your child/children
that they must show I.D. if we do not know them!
We hope that they will not be offended, but we would rather take that
chance than to have a child in danger!
Child Pick Up Policy
The parent/guardian should sign their child/children out! This is
important in case of an emergency, so we know your child/children is
gone.
Please do not let children write on the sign in-out sheet!
If someone other than you or those on your list are to pick up the
child/children , we must have written permission on a "just to let you
know" form or verbal permission with code word over the phone!
ID MUST BE SHOWN
Children will not be released without I.D. if we do not know the
person be it Grandma, Grandpa, Aunt or Uncle! Please tell them to
be offended if we don't ask!
Children will not be released to other minor children.
Parents/Guardians please remind your child/children to get their
things to take home.

Sick Child Policy

Emergency Plans
Tornado Plan
We will go to the nursery room and get all the children sit down. We will keep them calm by singing, telling stories or doing finger plays. After the all clear signal we will call you to let you know that we are all safe and sound!
Blizzard Plan
Be assured parents/guardians, we will take care of your little ones and keep them warm, happy and well fed. Thye will be fine. Please take care of yourself and don't take any chances out in the snow. Remember you are important to your child, so if its bad outside stay safe.
Cancellations due to bad weather will be announced on channel 5 and on the radio.
Bad Storm Plan
Don't worry we've got the plan. We've got all sorts of things to take their mind off the storm - puzzles, toys, books, games and videos. They will be safe and sound through the storm. Please remember you are important to your child. Take care of yourself. We'll be all right until you get here.
Fire Plan
We conduct fire drills each month and will be ready to evacuate the building as quickly as possible. FIRST we get everyone out to a safe place, and then call 911.
Each teacher will take their class attendance clipboard with them and when we are safe will take attendance immediately.
THIS IS WHY IT IS SO IMPORTANT FOR EACH OF YOU TO SIGN YOUR CHILDREN IN WHEN YOU COME AND SIGN THEM OUT WHEN YOU GO!
If you forget to sign your child in and an emergency situation arises, in all the anxiety we may not realize your child is missing.
If you forget to sign your child outand an emergency situation arises we would assume your child is still in the building and many people could risk their lives for a child who is safely home.
As soon as possible we will call you to let you know what has happened and that we are all safe and sound, and where we are.
